Aide: Senate Leaders "Making Progress" In Bid To Resolve Fiscal Crisis

Aide: Senate Leaders

(Washington, DC)  --  A senior Democratic aide says a Senate deal is possible "within the next 24 hours" to resolve the fiscal crisis on Capitol Hill.

Lawmakers are working to find common ground on two key issues: the length of an increase in the debt ceiling, and a funding bill to end the partial government shutdown.  The aide scoffed at reports that talks between Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid and Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell had broken down.

Earlier, Maine Republican Senator Susan Collins said progress is being made, but there's no deal yet.
