(Washington, DC) -- With the 16-day government crisis in the rear view mirror, President Obama says there are "no winners here."
In a statement at the White House, Obama said the partial shutdown of the federal government and the threat of default harmed the economy. He called the crisis "manufactured" and completely unnecessary. The President praised congressional Democrats and, quote, "responsible Republicans" for coming together to end the crisis.
A partial shutdown of the federal government came to an end when the President signed legislation extending government funding through mid-January. The bipartisan congressional bill also extends the federal debt ceiling into early February. The government faced the prospect of default without a boost in the nation's borrowing authority.
